Greening the City’ Active Travel Measures – Project Design
To increase the take up of cycling and walking
across the city, a number of improvements are required to existing
infrastructure that will give the user a safer, more interconnected
and more enjoyable experience.
The Great Western Way (GWW) is enjoyed by many walkers and cyclists
but contains a number of crossing points with the road network that
deter potential users and present difficulties to existing
travellers.
The proposed measures not only address pinch points at various
stages of the GWW but are aimed at bringing the standard of the
route more in line with Local Transport Note 1/20.
Included in this package is a proposal to improve the crossing at
the Blackfriars Street/Edgar Street junction. This is designed to
enable cyclists and walkers improved access on the east/west
axis.
