Information about Constitution

All major councils are required by law to prepare and keep an up to date constitution. The constitution explains and regulates how the council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

Please note that as from 29 March 2021 any references to director of children and wellbeing or assistant director safeguarding and family support should be read as the director of children’s services.

During the period 12 February 2021 to 2 May 2021 please note the following reference changes:


-          Chief Executive should read Acting Joint Chief Executives.

-          Head of Paid Service should read Acting Joint Chief Executive and Acting Head of Paid Service.

-          Returning Officer / Electoral Registration Officer should read Acting Head of Paid Service.
