The Education and Inspections Act 2006 has abolished the below Committee. A Statutory Instrument (No.935) brought the abolishment into force from May 2007

The School Organisation Committee

The School Organisation Committee was not a committee of the Local Education Authority.  It was a separate statutory body, which brings together the key partners in the provision of education, at local level, giving each an equal voice.

The Committee made decisions in place of the Secretary of State on school organisation proposals (including proposals relating to voluntary and foundation schools) including school closures, significant enlargements or other changes in character and will approve the School Organisation Plan.
