Decision details

Appointment of consultants to develop and deliver a countywide public consultation on future options for the waste collection service

Decision Maker: Assistant Director for Regulatory, Environment and Waste Services (Historic)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The council’s existing waste collection and disposal arrangements are due to expire at the end of 2023 and start of 2024 respectively. There is an option to extend our joint disposal (Waste Management Services) contract by up to 5 years to January 2029. This would also extend our partnership arrangements with Worcestershire County Council. There is no further extension option for the Waste Collection Contract which will expire in November 2023.

On 28th September 2020, a cross party Waste Task and Finish group of General Scrutiny Committee made a number of recommendations following a review of future options for the Waste Management service.

A key recommendation of this review was to undertake a public consultation to obtain their views on the proposed options (2 and 3) for waste collections.

The procurement process was undertaken in line with the Council’s contract procedure rules with support from the Commercial Services Team.
