The Council has established a Standards Committee in
accordance with Section 53 of the Local Government Act
2000. The Committee comprises of two
Councillors, two independent members and two town/parish
Councillors.
The role and function of the Standards Committee is
to:

Promote and maintain
high standards of conduct by the Councillors and co-opted members
of the Council.

Assist Councillors and
where appropriate co-opted members to observe the
Councillors’ Code of Conduct.

Advise the Council on
the adoption or revision of the Councillors’ Code of
Conduct.

Monitor the operation
of the Councillors’ Code of Conduct.

Advise, train or
arrange to train the Councillors and co-opted members of the
Council on matters relating to the Councillors’ Code of
Conduct.

Exercise the above
functions in relation to parish councils for which it is the
responsible authority, and the members of those
councils.

Grant dispensations to
Councillors, co-opted members and church and parent governor
representatives from requirements relating to interests set out in
the Councillors' Code of Conduct.

Consider complaints
referred to it by the Standards Board for England under the
provisions of the Local Authority (Code of Conduct) (Local
Determinations) Regulations 2003.
