Decision details

WEOBLEY AND LEINTWARDINE LIBRARIES

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Seek approval to proceed with community consultation at Weobley and discuss a joint management pilot with the Leintwardine Village Hall Committee.

Decision:

THAT(i) Community consultation is undertaken in respect of the future of Weobley Library.

(ii) A joint management pilot be discussed with Leintwardine Village Hall Committee in respect of Leintwardine Library

Reasons for the decision:

Leintwardine and Weobley Libraries are both identified in the library strategy as ‘..unsuitable for offering a modern library service and are priorities for either re-location or delivering in partnership with the local community.’  Evaluating options for the future of both facilities is included in the 2005/6 Library Service action plan.

Both facilities were included in the Council’s proposals to reduce expenditure for 2005/6.

Following attendance at a recent Weobley Parish Council meeting by the Library Policy & Development Manager to talk about the future of the library and subsequent correspondence, carrying out a formal consultation with all stakeholders is required before any further decisions are taken.

Officers responded in May 2005 to the local community’s proposals to redevelop the village hall (and library space) at Leintwardine – no further response has been received to date.
