A480 and U73045 Stretton Sugwas - Prohibition Of Right Turn And One-Way Orders

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member Highways & Transportation

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To consider the implementation of Traffic Regulation Orders, the effect of which will impose  one-way traffic and associated prohibition of manoeuvres on the existing highway network as part of the A4103 Roman Road improvement scheme.

Decision:

THAT subject to the consideration of any objections received Traffic Regulation Orders are introduced thus:

1) Prohibition of right turn: From the northern junction of the U73405 onto the A480.

2) One-way traffic:

i)            U73405 movements restricted to a northerly direction only, from a point 70 metres south of its junction with the northern junction of the A480 to that junction.

ii)         U73405 movements restricted to an easterly direction only from a point 18 metres west of the southern junction with the A480 to that junction.

Reasons for the decision:

As part of the A4103 Roman Road improvement scheme, a new section of the A480 was constructed to the east of Stretton Sugwas, effectively by-passing the community.  As a result, the existing highway network through the village was declassified.  The implementation of these orders will ensure that motorists adopt the new road layout thus reducing traffic volumes through the village.  The one-way order on the northern section of the U73405 will enable the existing northbound bus route to be maintained.

Alternative options considered:

The proposals recommended have been incorporated into the detailed design of Roman Road Improvement Scheme.  No alternatives are considered viable without design changes to that scheme.
