Decision:
Aylestone High has been included in the
planned maintenance programme 2018/19 for mechanical works in their
boiler rooms. The school is known to have asbestos on site. Prior
to commencement of works on site, an Asbestos Refurbishment Survey
was arranged for the areas in which the contractor appointed to
undertake the mechanical works would be operating, namely three
boiler rooms and the access to these rooms. This intrusive survey
has highlighted a significant number of high risk items in the
areas surveyed. One boiler room was reported as being free from
asbestos, the other two contained asbestos which was recommended
for removal.
The contractor has not commenced any works pending the outcome of
the asbestos survey.
The cost of the removal of the asbestos will be added to the
planned maintenance programme for 2018/19 for the mechanical works
at Aylestone and funded from the contingency within the existing
school capital maintenance budget.
