Emergency provision of child care for pre-school children during the coronavirus outbreak
Due to the closure of most child care
facilities and pre-school educational settings from Friday 27th
March due to lack of demand or due to staff shortages
(self-isolation or sickness) and the open settings unable to
accommodate more children, emergency hubs in key locations are
needed in order to accommodate the children of vulnerable families
and key workers during the coronavirus emergency.
There are 2 types of hubs being proposed;
1. To use existing settings, asking them to close as their nursery
and open as a hub. They would manage and provide staff where
possible and charge the LA. If and when the nursery could no longer
operate with the existing staff due to illness, they would use
Hoople staff to allow the hub to remain open. The private setting
is willing to offer extended hours and will take whole
families.
2. Schools with or without nursery space house the nursery Hub,
this is run preferably by a redeployed LA EYFS teacher supported by
Hoople staff. The second option is that this is run by a nursery
manager or Deputy Manager and has either their own (at a cost) or
Hoople staff.
